Thomas Hilton found guilty on an indictment for the highway robbery of Mary Young in the parish of Steyning on 10th June 1798: robbing her of a handkerchief (valued at 18d), a half handkerchief (valued at 9d), a pair of shoe buckles (valued at 6d), 2 half crowns, a shilling and a sixpenny piece.  The Sussex Weekly Advertiser of 20th August says the execution took place “on Saturday last”: in relation to other executions it says under the Saturday’s date “today”
